Honouring Indigenous Lands & Communities

We respectfully acknowledge that Toronto, where our organiztion is based, is located on the traditional territory of many Indigenous nations. The territory of the Huron-Wendat and Petun First Nations, the Seneca, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River. We acknowledge that this land is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

We also acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit.

We recognize the enduring presence of Indigenous peoples on this land and honour the traditional knowledge keepers and elders who have cared for it. We recognize the past and ongoing contributions of Indigenous peoples to this area and commit to working in solidarity with Indigenous communities.

We encourage everyone who visits our events and uses our services to learn about the Indigenous peoples of this land and to consider how they can support reconciliation efforts.

Get Involved: Support Indigenous Rights and Businesses

At TorontoSOS, we believe in the importance of actively supporting Indigenous rights, cultures, and economies. Indigenous communities across Canada and around the world face ongoing challenges rooted in historical injustices. By getting involved and showing support, we can all contribute to positive change and reconciliation.

Why It Matters: Supporting Indigenous rights is not just about correcting past wrongs; it's about creating a future where Indigenous peoples thrive with dignity and equality. By advocating for Indigenous rights, you help amplify their voices and promote justice in areas such as land rights, healthcare, education, and cultural preservation.

Support Indigenous Businesses and Artists: Indigenous businesses and artists enrich our communities with their unique perspectives and talents. By purchasing from Indigenous-owned businesses and supporting Indigenous artists, you contribute directly to economic empowerment and cultural revitalization. Whether it's art, crafts, clothing, or services, every purchase makes a difference.

How You Can Help:

  • Educate Yourself: Learn about Indigenous histories, cultures, and current issues. Knowledge is a powerful tool for understanding and advocacy.

  • Advocate: Speak out against discrimination and inequality. Support policies and initiatives that promote Indigenous rights and well-being.

  • Engage: Attend Indigenous cultural events, workshops, and discussions. Listen to Indigenous voices and learn from their experiences.

  • Support Businesses and Artists: Seek out Indigenous-owned businesses and artists in your community and online. Follow and promote their work.

Together, Let's Make a Difference: Join us in standing with Indigenous peoples. By taking action, supporting Indigenous businesses, and advocating for Indigenous rights, we contribute to a more just and inclusive society. Together, we can build a future where Indigenous communities thrive, their cultures flourish, and their contributions are celebrated.
